While no shots were fired in this incident, Blue Security said that one of the robbers was carrying a licensed firearm. This is a first because most of the incidents the Northglen News covers involves unlicensed firearms.

What’s even more shocking  of the Glenashley robbery is that one of the robbers tried to escape and was finally caught outside a primary school in the area. While the security officer who made the arrest managed to escape with minor lacerations to his face, one shudders to think what could have been had the suspect fired shots outside the school during a school break. A police source told the Northglen News that suspects were not just trying to escape when cornered but were rather shooting their way out. Case in point the brutal murder of Capt Basil Naidoo in March whose alleged killer is still on the loose: Slain officer a loss to community Naidoo had arrived at the scene of the robbery in the Riverside area in March and minutes later the armed men opened fire killing the long serving policeman instantly.
