Western Province sneak a nail-biter in Durban

Hollywoodbet Dolphins lose the opening game by two runs.

IT was an inauspicious start to the CSA T20 Challenge for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins who lost by two runs to WSB Western Province in their opening game at the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.

The Dolphins have made two final appearances in the last three seasons and, despite their indifferent start, are eager to get back into it.

Western Province, who won the toss, elected to bat first and struggled to get going mustering 148/8 on a tough surface.

Jonathan Bird top scored for the visitors with 40 off 30 balls.

In response the Dolphins struggled to get going slumping to 112/7 in the 16th over.

Skipper Keshav Maharaj (13*) and Prenelan Subrayen (19*) put on a valiant partnership of 34 that gave the Dolphins a chance going into the final over.

The home team need 18 to win off the final over off the bowling of Beuran Hendricks.

Despite a six in the second ball of the over and the penultimate delivery going for four the Dolphins could not score the final four runs for victory.

Instead Maharaj could only manage a single as Western Province won by two runs.

Result: WSB Western Province 148/8 (20 overs) – Hollywoodbets Dolphins 146/7 (20 overs) [WSB Western Province won by two runs]
