No cricket for next 60 days-CSA

A resolution in the coming days will determine the outcomes to the various professional and semi-professional tournaments on the go at the moment.

AS President Cyril Ramaphosa announces a national state of disaster in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Cricket South Africa has taken the decision to cancel the Momentum One Day Cup on the eve of the competition semi-finals.

Along with this cancellation, Cricket South Africa will terminate all cricket for the next sixty days which puts an end to current domestic season. However a resolution in the coming days will determine the outcomes to the various professional and semi-professional tournaments on the go at the moment.

With gatherings of over 100 people being forbidden following the president’s address to the nation on Sunday evening, along with various other resolutions, the decision was taken on Monday in a meeting between Cricket South Africa and all its stakeholders.

“It’s a hugely unfortunate way to end the competition but the health of players, staff and spectators is of the utmost importance,” CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom said.

“We will do all we can to help in the fight against the spread of the virus and hope that the public understand the stance taken by CSA and KZN Cricket,” he added.

The Hollywoodbets Dolphins had finished the Momentum One Day Cup on the top of the log and were due to host the VKB Knights in the first semi-final at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Tuesday.

Tickets that have been purchased for the semi-final can be refunded.
