Expect more with 2020’s Tour Durban

The event is under new management and a whole lot of exciting changes were made to the annual cycling race to the next level.

ENTRIES have continued to pour in as Durbanites ready themselves for the 2020 edition of the iconic aQuellé Tour Durban, held on Saturday, 25 and Sunday, 26 April.

The event is under new management and a whole lot of exciting changes were made to the annual cycling race to the next level.

For the serious roadies, the main race has been extended and reversed and totals 115km now. It starts with an out-and-back loop up the M4 into Pinetown with a climb up the Dumisane Makhanye super-highway. This is followed by a fast descent through Queensburgh and up the Southern Freeway to the finish at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

There is a family-friendly 45km event and a double lap 90km option on the M4 that starts and finishes at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Four new events were added to the Saturday roster. These include a 20km and 40km MTB race based at Cornubia Mall that makes use of a new single track that was carves through the surrounding farmlands.

There is a road race for development riders from the KZN Cycling programme as well as a fun race for children on bikes and trikes.

The first 2 500 entrants will also receive a free ticket to watch the Cell C Sharks take on the Brumbies at the Jonsson Kings Park stadium on the Saturday afternoon.

The race has the Domino Foundation at its core and all the proceeds will be given the organisation. Competitors can choose to ride in a charity batch with the Cell C Sharks, The Cows or simply join other Durbanites #Riding4Good during the full road closure.

Normal entries close on 10 April and riders, who enter before the end of February, stand a chance to win early bird prizes. To enter, visit www.tourdurban.co.za.
