Heat slay Giants in Durban

David Miller helped secure the Heat's second win in four days with his first half century of the Mzansi Super League (MSL).

JUST two days after winning their first match of the Mzansi Super League (MSL), the Durban Heat team continued their resurgence with a resounding win over the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants at Kingsmead Stadium on Saturday.

The Giants won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring a formidable 173/6. Keshav Maharaj was the pick of the Heat’s bowlers finishing with 3/15 in his four overs.

In reply the home team looked comfortable and a first half century from homeboy David Miller helped secure the Heat’s second win in four days. The Heat reached the target in a record chase with an over to spare.

Heat skipper Dane Vilas highlighted the bowling spell from Keshav Maharaj and the onslaught from Wihan Lubbe (31 off 11 balls) as a crucial moments that changed the pace of the match.

He added that the back-to-back wins chasing big scores reflected the determination in the team.

“It was a great effort,” he said. “I think it was a record chase here at Kingsmead, so I couldn’t have asked for any more. Everyone is standing up,” he added.  “We want to do well in this competition. We are keen and we are excited and a great team to be part of.”

The win sees the Heat go back-to-back with wins as they prepare to take on the Paarl Rocks in Paarl on Wednesday.
