Thousands sang and chanted for the Springboks at the Durban City Hall courtyard.
ADDRESSING a crowd of thousands at the Durban City Hall, South African Rugby Captain, Siya Kolisi thanked fans for their support, backing the Springboks as they contended during the Rugby World Cup to win the coveted Web Ellis Trophy.
“I want to say thank you so much for the support, it’s been amazing. Thank you, the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen,” he said to thunderous applause from the crowd.
Kolisi gave the address from the balcony of the Durban City Hall where he stood with his team mates and several city officials, including eThekwini Municipality Mayor, Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda.

Keeping his speech brief, Kaunda praised the Springboks for a victory that had unified the nation.
“Today is not a day of speeches, we are in a celebratory mood. We are saying, ‘you are warriors, you are our heroes, you have made us proud as South Africans’. Sport is a very important tool to bring about social cohesion as well as embracing our unity in diversity,” said Kaunda.

The Springbok appearance at the City Hall was one of several stops along the Springbok Trophy Parade that began in uMhlanga at about 9am on Friday, 8 November.
