KZN finish third in blind cricket tournament

Northglen News spoke with captain of the team, Donovan van Noordwyk, about the KZN team's performances.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Blind Cricket team finished third at this year’s Blind Cricket Inter-Provincial Tournament, an improvement on last year’s fourth place finish.

KZN competed against Free State, Boland, Western Province, Northern Gauteng and Central Gauteng in a T20 format tournament held at Northwood School.

Northglen News spoke with captain of the team, Donovan van Noordwyk, about his team’s performances.

“This was definitely one of our best performances. I’m incredibly proud of the team because last year we finished fourth and I felt our performances weren’t up to par. This year however, we’ve worked hard with the management team, we’ve trained hard and remained focused on our goal to do well on home turf. The team have been great on and off the field. I think the team spirit and camaraderie was what helped me us have such a successful year,” he said.

The team lost to overall winners, Western Province in the semi-finals of the tournament.

KZN’s impressive performances also saw four players been chosen for the South African blind cricket team, including van Noordwyk.

“This is a highlight for the KZN team that we have four players on the national squad. We are looking forward to playing in England next year. It will be a massive experience for us and we are all looking forward to the challenge ahead,” he said.
