Free training rides for Amashova

Cycle Lab is offering KZN based cyclists free and safe training rides every Saturday.

TSOGO Sun Amashova’s official partner, Cycle Lab is offering KZN based cyclists free and safe training rides every Saturday. The rides which began on Saturday, run until 12 October.

According to the company’s national marketing manager, Sean Badenhorst, cyclists can choose to participate in a shorter ride of 30 – 40km or a longer rider of 70 – 80km starting from the Mugg & Bean at either Suncoast Casino or Hillcrest.

“The safety of cyclists remains a challenge in South Africa in general and Durban in particular. With Cycle Lab Active, our safe-riding community, we have established weekly rides that offer higher levels of safety. After the success of these rides in the build-up to last year’s Tsogo Sun Durban Amashova, we’re repeating them,” said Badenhorst.

Apart from the usual distances being offered to cyclists on 20 October 2019 of 35km, 65 and 106km, this year’s Tsogo Sun Amashova marks the inaugural relay race on the 160km route where teams of two riders can race the new longer distance introduced last year, with the changeover point being at the 65km start in Cato Ridge.

“With just over a month left until race day there will undoubtedly be an increase in the number of cyclists taking to the roads on their bikes, which also means an increase in the risk of accidents and collisions with motor vehicles. Cycling safety has become a major issue on our roads and the number of fatal incidents involving cyclists is unacceptably high. We also actively promote road safety through our association with organisations such as Pedal Power and their ‘Stay Wider of the Rider campaign,” said Amashova race director, Annie Batchelder.Schedule of
