National rally championship action in Dalton on Saturday

This Saturday the rolling sugarcane hills around the Midlands town of Dalton, KwaZulu Natal, will echo to the sound of powerful and tortured rally cars with the running of the Zane Rencken National Rally.

The event is the fifth round on the SA National Rally Championship calendar and will feature not only the usual national field of rally cars but a host of regional and club competitors from KZN, Gauteng and the Eastern Cape (see entry list below).

The rally takes place over a single day and centres around the Dalton Unicorn Club where the Dunlop Service Zone will be located.

The special stages of the rally are all within an easy 15 minute drive of the club and there will be a variety of exciting spectator points:

DENZIL Spectator Point 1: S 29.20.193 / E 30.34.349

DENZIL Spectator Point 2: S 29.19.545 / E 30.34.785

KURT Spectator Point: S 29.18.119 / E 30.34.089

EDGAR Spectator Point: S 29.17.595 / E 30.37.140

KLIPP Spectator Point: S 29.19.658 / E 30.37.838

The rally is a tribute to Zane Rencken (pictured) who was one of KZN’s up and coming enthusiastic rally drivers who died  in 2018 in a work accident.

The Dalton farming community, his family and the Natal Motorcycle and Car Club have joined forces to organise the rally as a tribute to Zane.

The Zane Rencken National Rally kicks off at 7.30am on Saturday and ends around 3.30pm with the prize-giving function taking place from 6.30pm.

Comprehensive spectator guides will be available at the rally HQ on Friday and Saturday and the Dalton Unicorn Club will also have food and refreshments available throughout the day.

Durbanites Guy Botterill and navigator Simon Vacy-Lyle are at the top of the SA National Rally Championship standings and are keen to ward off the pressure on local soil when the Zane Rencken National Rally takes place in the Dalton area on Saturday.
