Simone crowned KZN’s best

Simone Harmsworth won the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) KZN provincials, bikini fitness over 163 centimetres.

DEDICATION, hunger and passion are just three of the key ingredients an athlete needs to excel in the fitness world. One person who has those qualities and then some in abundance is uMhlanga’s Simone Harmsworth. She recently won the the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) KZN provincials, bikini fitness over 163 centimetres category.

“It was a great achievement winning this competition. Five of my previous competitions I’d finished either outside the top three or second so to win was awesome,” she said.

Harmsworth said competing in the bikini division has made her stronger both physically and mentally.

“I’ve always been into fitness, about three and half years tried kettlebells and my coach, Andrew Hudson approached me and asked if I was interested in competing. I wasn’t sold at first but I decided to give it a go. I did my first novice show in 2016 and won that and the bug just bit. I think getting up on stage, showing how hard you worked on your physique is a very rewarding process,” she said.

Harmsworth added one of the toughest parts of the sport was dieting.

“You have to be disciplined. I always knew the dieting was hard but I didn’t expect everything to be so technical. Everything you eat is weighed and it’s all worked out on a spreadsheet. I think one of the positives of the sports is it makes you more determined and focused, which translates into your life as well,” she said.

Harmsworth will now take part in the SA Champs and hopes to come out tops at the competition.
