Trio of selections for Emma

The Chelsea Prep Grade 6 learner was recently selected for KwaZulu-Natal for three different sporting disciplines.

THERE’S no stopping Durban North’s Emma Christianson. The Chelsea Prep Grade 6 learner was recently selected for KwaZulu-Natal for three different sporting disciplines. Not only did she make the KZN team for triathlon, she also played for the U12A indoor netball team that won gold at the inter-provincial tournament in Johannesburg.

What’s more, Emma also represented the province at the SA School’s swimming championships winning an impressive four gold and three silver medals.

“I was so ecstatic, I really felt like I pushed my limits during the champs. Swimming is one of my favourite sports so to do medal at the champs was awesome. My goal is to make the South African team for the Olympics in swimming. This wouldn’t have been possible without my mom, dad and brother. They’ve always pushed me and motivated me to never give up,” she said.

Emma’s achievments:

Triathlon: She represented KZN at the South African Triathlon champs held at Aldam in the Freestate. Emma came third in her age division and received a bronze medal.

Action netball: Emma took part in the action netball nationals held in Centurion. Not only was she captain of KZN U12A team who ultimately won the inter-provisional tournament after playing 12 matches against the other provinces and winning the nail-biting final against Western Province (Final score was 38-37).  The KZN team was presented with Gold medals for their victory. Emma was also awarded the trophy for the Umpire’s ‘Player of the Final’.

National SA school swimming champs: Emma took part in the SA Schools Swimming Championships and won gold in the 50 metre butterfly, 50 metre freestyle, 100 metre butterfly and 4×100 metre free relay. She won silver in the 200 metre individual medley, the 4×50 metre free relay, 4 x 50 metre medley relay.
