Lace up for uMhlanga winter trail run

Entries have opened for the Umhlanga Winter Trail Run.

UMHLANGA Tourism and Riverside Trail said the next Umhlanga Festival Trail Run and Walk will take place from the promenade at main beach, next to the Millennium Stage, at 6.30am on Sunday, 5 July.

This will be an excellent opportunity for those novices wanting to test their off-road skills as the event offers 5km, 12km and 18km routes. It is also an ideal time for those Comrades runners to give their tired legs an outing. The 5km and 12km events are a run or walk. The 18km is a run only.

There will be one water table at the 7km mark for both the 12km and 18km trails. The 18km entrants may want to carry a litre of water.

As has been the norm with this event, each route is always different to any previous layout. It makes the runs interesting and challenging. This winter event in particular will incorporate some terrain never ventured into before.

There is one constant, however, in that there will be a river and lagoon crossing plus the usual section of beach at the finish. The 5km route will include the pristine Hawaan Dune Forest Trail, which is a special treat for all nature lovers.

To enter visit www.umhlangafestivals.co.za, and the first 200 pre-entries will qualify for special event T-shirts.
