Virginia victorious in Futsal tourney
THE Sports Arena (Gateway) recently hosted a Futsal (5-a-side) U10 tournament with Virginia FC claiming the title.
Juventus FC, Escombe FC, Stella FC, Virginia FC and Brazilian Soccer Schools North Coast participated were some of the team involved. With the assistance of Brazilian Soccer Schools, the priority is to develop the skills and game play techniques of youth players and to keep them participating in soccer during the off season.
Organiser Peter Hooper, said the tournament was a huge success. “The Parents and coaches appreciated the great skills and enthusiasm displayed by all the players. Futsal helps increase the skill, speed, fitness and passing abilities of players. The difference between Futsal and other “Action” type soccer games is that in Futsal you have to use your skill to keep the ball within the playing area (lines) unlike Action soccer where players use the wall or nets to get past the opposition,” he said.
Players and coaches from U6 to U17 are invited to participate in three tournaments this year while U15, U17, seniors and veteran teams can enter a league starting on 21 October. The next tournament will showcase the U6 and U7 teams on Saturday 19 October and U8 and U9 on the Sunday 20 Oct, starting at 1pm.
