Ngubane runs to victory

Local wins his second Mont Aux-Sources marathon.

ERIC Ngubane defended his Mont Aux-Sources ultra marathon title (50km) winning in a time of 4 hours 39 minutes. That makes it back-to-back titles for the wily road runner and he’s hoping to continue that trend by winning three in a row come next year’s race.

While he acknowledged the beauty of the surrounding Drakensburg mountains during the race, Ngubane said the toughest thing to contend with, besides the altitude, was the chain ladders. The ladders ascends the final 30m of cliff face in two sections.

“It was really tough especially the chain ladder section. I was confident that my training would get me through the event.

”I was extremely excited to finish in first place and to defend my title,” he said.
