Let’s make our area ‘poop’-free

"I have decided not to walk my dog around my neighbourhood any more as he developed worms."

I STAY off Brownsdrift Road in Umgeni Park – we are very blessed to stay in a neighbourhood that allows pets and is all-round pet friendly. However, some pet owners do not understand how lucky we are as they do not pick up after their pets when walking them in the neighbourhood.

It has now reached a point where there is a ‘poop’ smell wafting over my wall and into my garden. It is becoming unhygienic and now that summer and the heat is on its way it is going to get worse. The roads are Anthony Road, Collard Road and Underwood. Also, I have decided not to walk my dog around my neighbourhood any more as he developed worms and this may be due to the fact that he is smelling and walking over other dogs’ poo – he gets his worm tablets on a regular basis but still managed to get infected.

Also, it is super unpleasant when you are walking your dog and have to avoid these ‘landmines’ – it makes the walk unpleasant when it should be a nice activity for owners and their dogs. It also seems that it is mostly the owners with big dogs that do not pick up after their pets. There are bins in the area that get emptied on a weekly basis. It takes nothing to carry a packet with you.

Please, if we all join together to keep the neighbourhood ‘poop’-free it will be much more pleasant and hygienic for all.
