The situation is dire

“People who are employed by the government to do the work are least prepared and equipped to do it." - Terence Nombembe

THE letter from Siya Mkhize in your 13 February edition refers. I heartily agree with his sentiment that there’s nothing to be proud of in the new South Africa. However, as usual, he uses his letter to take another swipe at whites, or, as he puts it slyly, ‘those who benefited from apartheid’. While deploring the situation here he avoids mentioning which political party he favours.

However, his letters in your newspaper suggest he’s an enthusiastic supporter of the EFF, which, judging by media reports, is bent on eliminating whites in various ways. Mkhize needs to be reminded that blacks have been in the driving seat for 20 years, so if there’s anything about South Africa he doesn’t like, he should be complaining to his fabulously wealthy black comrades, rather than making snide remarks to annoy whites, some of whom are now beggars due purely to the colour of their skin. I recall Mkhize’s letter in your paper boasting about our government having produced a new ‘black middle class’. On the other hand, our auditor-general, Terence Nombembe, stated in 2012: “People who are employed by the government to do the work are least prepared and equipped to do it. The situation is dire.” The latter could also be applied to the management of Eskom.
