Speed-traps prove danger of Chartwell Drive

EDITOR - The saga of dangerous speeding in Chartwell Drive continues.

Director Ashley Dove of the Metro Police very kindly arranged speed-trapping in this road recently, and the result was 11 prosecutions in a very short period of time.

This, of course, is merely the tip of the iceberg, but it is a vivid indication of the problems we are facing in Chartwell Drive.

If ever a road was crying out for speed-bumps this is it. Why an incredibly quiet road such as Stanley Grace Crescent should have speed bumps, and a flat high speed street such as Chartwell Drive doesn’t, defies belief.

The situation continues to be very serious, and it is my hope that the Department of Transport will review their initial decision not to install speed bumps as a matter of urgency.

I have requested Director Dove request that traffic-calming measures be installed as soon as possible, before the inevitable horrendous accident happens.

Spike Farrell.
