HYPE and excitement are building surrounding retail giant Checkers, once again, as they make history by taking to the skies in collaboration with the LIFT Airline in their personal branded ‘Checkers Sixty60’ Airbus A320.

Emblazoned with ‘Sixty60’ on its sides and ‘Checkers’ on its belly, the plane was first spotted at the OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday, October 24. The high-flying South African grocery retailer was already making waves with its miniature collection sending citizens into a frenzy to complete their sets.

In a statement, Checkers said, “In collaboration with award-winning airline LIFT, the teal Airbus A320 conducted its maiden flight between Johannesburg and Cape Town at 10:00 on Thursday, October 24. It will continue to operate on regularly scheduled flights between Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town this summer. This festive season, Checkers will be adding something extra special to its offering – to bring beloved family members together. Watch this space – more will be revealed soon.”

Social media is already abuzz with the retailer taking service delivery to greater heights ahead of the festive season. On the Checkers Facebook page, Shianne de Lange said, “Having been in aviation, I feel quite emotional! Huge congratulations to all involved! Checkers and LIFT . . . you ROCK,” while Agie Shonge wrote, “I’m excited to see what you have in store for us – super excited.”

The Checkers Sixty60 has been spotted in the sky over Joburg and Cape Town. Aviation enthusiasts and plane spotters can track the aircraft operated by LIFT online via its registration number ZS-GAS.
