Subforum 5 to upgrade Greenwood Park Police Station

Business and the community are welcome to support Greenwood Park SAPS Community Policing Forum (CPF) Subforum 5 with the upgrade of the police station.

THE Greenwood Park SAPS Community Policing Forum (CPF) Subforum 5 has recently been revitalised, and its first initiative is an upgrade for the local police station.

The newly elected Executive Committee (EXCO), which came into place about a month ago, consists of chairman Charles Matthews, vice-chair Michael Bester, secretary Peter Niemann, deputy secretary Pooben Naidoo, public relations officer Warren Flynn and treasurer Neil Madurai.

Subforum 5 covers areas such as Umhlanga Rocks Drive, Glen Anil, Glen Hills, Malacca Road, Redhill and Umvoti.

Speaking to Northglen News, Matthews highlighted that the primary motivation behind the station upgrade is to boost the morale of SAPS staff and provide a more welcoming environment for the community when reporting cases.

“There are several issues that need attention, including a fresh coat of paint, installing water tanks to ensure supply during outages and repairs to ablution facilities,” said Matthews.

“Some SAPS members work 12-hour shifts. It’s hard to imagine working such long hours in conditions without water or in an environment that’s not suitable. The public also needs access to ablutions and drinking water when they come to report incidents. Greenwood Park SAPS is a community asset, and we must work together to ensure it operates smoothly,” he added.

Vice-chair Michael Bester emphasised the importance of collaboration.

“Let’s pull businesses and the community together with the Greenwood Park Police Station for the greater good of everybody,” he said.

Matthews is calling on local businesses and the community to support the project by donating supplies and materials.

Greenwood Park SAPS Station Commander Colonel Gladness Sibisi welcomed the collaboration with Subforum 5.

“We are thankful to Subforum 5 for initiating this upgrade, and we look forward to working with them and the community in the fight against crime. We encourage community members to attend CPF meetings and participate in this project. SAPS cannot fight crime alone – we must work together,” said Colonel Sibisi.

Those interested in joining the CPF or contributing to the project can contact Charles Matthews at 079 294 2907 or Michael Bester at 071 933 8719.

Donations of cleaning supplies, paint and similar materials are greatly appreciated.
