Passenger dies at King Shaka International Airport

An inquest docket has been opened by the SAPS at the airport.

THE Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has confirmed that a passenger died after collapsing at King Shaka International Airport (KSIA) on Saturday afternoon.

The passenger reportedly collapsed at the domestic arrivals area.

ACSA spokesperson Ernest Mulibana extended his condolences to the man’s family and loved ones.

“ACSA can also confirm that an unidentified male passenger passed away at King Shaka International Airport. Emergency services were immediately called and attended to him, but he was unfortunately declared dead on the scene,” he said.

He added that the matter has been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS).

A second fatality was also reported on Saturday, this time at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA), where a person had fallen from parking Level 5 to the ground level.

“The cause of death in both incidents is still unknown, however, we can confirm that the matter has been handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) and that an inquest docket has been opened for further investigations. ACSA extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the travellers during this difficult time,” Mulibana said.
