Burglar apprehended with stolen goods in Umgeni Park

The burglar tried to escape officers by jumping over fences into properties but was apprehended with the stolen items in his possession.

A BURGLAR was apprehended with the stolen items he allegedly took from a house in Kelvin Place, Umgeni Park, on Sunday night.

A community member, who witnessed the suspicious activity, called Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre and reported the house-breaking at the premises.

“Shortly after, at 22:02, a client of Marshall Security residing on Kelvin Place also reported seeing a suspicious individual in her yard,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

When armed response officers arrived at the scene, they saw the suspect running along High Ridge Road, jumping fences into various properties in an attempt to evade capture but in vain as he was apprehended by officers.

“Our officers recovered stolen items, which were positively identified by the non-client as belonging to her son. The suspect had accessed the property by jumping over the rear fence and entering the cottage through an unsecured front door. While some items, including the recovered goods, were returned to the homeowner, other stolen valuable items are still missing,” added Powell.

Greenwood Park SAPS arrived on the scene and took the suspect into custody.
