Body of missing Avoca man recovered at South Beach

Siba Dlamini was captured on CCTV footage leaving the hotel he had booked into last week.

POINT police have opened an inquest docket after the discovery of Siba Olwethu Dlamini, whose body washed ashore on South Beach last week.

Dlamini had been reported missing by his family and was last seen leaving his hotel in the Durban CBD last Wednesday.

According to Prem Balram, spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the 30-year-old’s body was taken to the Phoenix Mortuary.

“The Avoca resident left his hotel on Wednesday (September 4) at approximately 22:00. CCTV footage showed him walking in the direction of the beach. He could not be located since. Employees at the hotel discovered all his belongings, including his cellphone and vehicle keys, in his room.

“Information was then received that the body of a man had washed up on South Beach in Durban the day after Dlamini went missing. His family positively identified the body as Dlamini. Investigations into his death are underway,” he said.

KZN police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that police were investigating the case.

“Police in Point have registered an inquest docket for investigation following an incident in which the body of a 30-year-old man was recovered at South Beach, Durban, on September, 4,” she said.
