Reinstatement of Kenville Road nears completion

Chairperson of the ratepayers' body Anil Beekrum says the collapse inconvenienced both motorists and residents, and he hopes the repairs will ensure the road is more stable.

THE Kenville and Sea Cow Lake Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association has welcomed the reinstatement of Kenville Road which is in the final stages of being rebuilt.

The road, which began collapsing in March 2022, was impacted by heavy rains, as well as heavy-duty vehicles leading to the condition of the road deteriorating to a point where both lanes of the residential road were impacted.

Chairperson of the ratepayers’ body Anil Beekrum said the collapse had inconvenienced both motorists and residents, and he said he hoped the repairs would now ensure the road would be more stable.

A property bordering the collapsed section of the road also had to build its retaining wall, and the section between the failed roadway and the wall had to be backfilled and compacted to road level.

“I anticipate the road should be reinstated by the end of this week which is a huge relief. All the other work to secure the business premises below road level has been completed, and now, the road just needs to be tarred and reinstated. I have been informed by the contractor that they will be installing a pavement or sidewalk on one side.

“We’ve also requested that the hard shoulder be fenced off as the neighbouring park has been a site of illegal dumping in the last few weeks. I’ve also been informed that the initial plan to realign the water pipe has been changed to accommodate the rider pipe which was put in place as a temporary measure.”
