North Durban learners treated to skills and leadership course

The Domino Foundation's Life Skills programme facilitated the day which was conducted by Edge Schools.

CLOSE to 100 learners between grades four and seven, from Ekuthuleni Primary School, KwaMashu, and Inanda Primary School, celebrated International Youth Month last week at Northwood Boys’ High School in an event organised by Edge Schools.

The learners were treated to high-energy activities, a development training camp and a lot of fun with song and dance and games, such as crossing the gorge, bucket-up, waterpipe relay and blindfold challenge.

There were also question-and-answer and brainstorming sessions on the leadership roles of prefects and mentors. Learners were also taught about what it takes to be effective leaders.

“For 18 years, we have capitalised on our vision that the young people of our nation have a crucial role in shaping both the present and the future. The day’s learning exercises drew on both physical and cognitive involvement to equip current and future leaders with effective personal and team skills,” Sindi Ntlangulela-Bensch, Edge Schools’ managing director, explained.

Leader of Domino’s Life Skills team Thobile Msani added that anyone interested in being part of the young learners defining their futures can contact the programme on 031 110 0730 or education@domino.org.za.
