This weekend is turning out to be an eventful one with an orchestra, a music concert, a wine show and lots of markets.

DURBAN always delivers when it comes to stage productions, music concerts and even wine shows. The cherry on top is that it’s summer all year long, so get out and enjoy some of the events listed below.

Durban City Orchestra

The Durban City Orchestra (DCO), conducted by Charl van der Merwe, will present a Concerto Concert at the Rhumbelow Theatre on July 28. The DCO is a vibrant community orchestra that has been in existence since 1888 and boasts members from all walks of life. It provides a platform for amateurs, scholars and students to perform within an orchestral environment.

‘Open Night’ showcase

The International School of Performing Arts (ISPA) Presents Open Night – A Spectacular Musical Theatre Showcase. Join ISPA on Thursday, July 25, at 19:00, at Olive Tree Church on Florida Road for an unforgettable evening of iconic musical favourites. This showcase features the talented students of ISPA performing songs from legendary musicals like Les Miserables, Hamilton, Hairspray and Anything Goes.

The Parlotones set the tone

Old Mutual Music at the Lake returns with their next concert in the exceptional series and welcomes The Parlotones who’ll perform on Sunday, July 28, at the Durban Botanic Gardens, nestled around the picturesque lake area. Music enthusiasts and families alike can look forward to an unforgettable live performance by one of SA’s legendary bands, The Parlotones. Frontman Kahn Morbee will be travelling in from the Netherlands for this very special concert and can’t wait to perform. Gates open at 13:00, music starts at 14:00 and the show ends at 17:00. Tickets can be purchased through Webtickets. Drinks and food are welcome. You may bring picnic blankets and camping chairs.

Sip and swirl

Enjoy an afternoon of elegance and premium wine-tasting at the Pick ‘n Pay Wine and Food Festival Durban as the retailer brings the Cape Winelands to Chris Saunders Park in uMhlanga for one day only on July 27, accompanied by delicious food and an afternoon of live entertainment. Live music will provide the perfect backdrop to the afternoon, featuring local musicians, The Black Lapels, Afro Divas and saxophonist Tim Lewis, on stage. Tickets are available at Webtickets, priced from R275 per person (which includes a tasting glass and 20 wine-tasting tokens). Saturday fare

A market with all sorts, including fresh farm produce, has been a mainstay in Westville North since the 2021 riots. They are excited to announce that they have new vendors.

The proactive and resourceful team from Macnut Farm in Lello Road, Assagay, hosts a Sunday Fresh Produce Market from 11:00 to 14:00 for locals to buy and sell homegrown produce in picture-perfect surroundings.
