Refuse collection disrupted across several parts of eThekwini

The eThekwini Municipality said several areas have been affected by this disruption.

THE eThekwini Municipality has advised residents that waste collection and street-sweeping services have been disrupted across the city.

This is allegedly due to former Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers going on strike over the termination of contracts.

In a statement, the municipality said workers have resorted to blocking gates in different depots and have intimidated staff and refuse collection contractors.

“This has made it impossible for normal collection of refuse to take place. Several areas have been affected by this disruption. Security personnel have been alerted of the situation at hand. We request residents not to take out their refuse until further notice. Those who have taken out their refuse are requested to retrieve it and keep it on their properties,” the statement read.
