DURBANITES on various wheels showed up to support a Worldwide Rollout Day event in Durban on Sunday.
The day, usually held on July 11 across the world, is a way for everyone on wheels to build community, cooperation and togetherness.
The event was organised by community skating crew Hop, Skip & Skate and saw rollerbladers, roller skaters, BMX riders, scooters and longboarders skate along the Point Promenade.
According to the official Worldwide Rollout Day website, the event started in 2020 with a simple message of ‘all wheels, all inclusive, rolling together all over the world’ to erase hate.
One of the community members and the founder of Hop, Skip & Skate, Vicky Kettle, said she was pleased with the turnout for the event.

“It was great to have so many people on different wheels join us on the day. We started at Basibean Coffee and then went south towards uShaka and then north again towards the skate park. This event is all about inclusivity and erasing hate, and that was on display with some of our more experienced skaters helping first-timers roll along the Durban Promenade.
“We also have people at different skill levels, and the Worldwide Rollout Day really encourages all people on wheels to join us. There is room for everybody. We did have one or two people on bicycles come to see what we were doing and joining. My hope is that this community continues to grow and we get stronger as the years go on. Today was just a way for us to celebrate all things wheels and create new friendships. There was also such a great vibe,” she said.
