City to close section of M4 highway over weekend

Metro police has urged motorists to find alternative routes on Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21.

METRO Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu has advised motorists and residents that a section of the M4 Ruth First Highway will be closed for several hours on Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21.

According to Zungu, the eThekwini Municipality will close the M4 (southbound) between the Virginia off-ramp and the Swapo (Broadway) off-ramp.

“This will allow the City to carry out its tree-pruning project and road maintenance between Virginia and Broadway. Work on both days will be carried out from 08:00 to 15:00. We are advising motorists to use alternative routes over the weekend,” he said.

Zungu added that metro police officers will be on duty to divert traffic off the M4.

The maintenance and tree pruning was meant to take place last week, however, it was postponed by the City.
