Cadee van Aswegen, who is a dancer with Break-Thru Dance Academy, said the experience has been phenomenal.

“My experience at the YAGP was incredible. It was challenging and intense but also incredibly rewarding. I got to meet and train with so many talented dancers from all over the world. The feedback from the choreographer, Shahar Binyami, was invaluable for my growth as a dancer,” she said.

“This was my first time dancing overseas. It was both exciting and a bit nerve-wrecking, but it opened my eyes to the global dance community as well as the various techniques. It has definitely motivated me even more,” she added.

“It was definitely a highlight performing on such a prestigious stage – what an unforgettable moment. I also attended classes at Joffrey Ballet School, New York City Studios and Steps on Broadway,¨ she said.

“It was also great to learn from the various teachers at the classes I had attended as each one brought unique perspectives and techniques which enriched my understanding and appreciation of dance,” she said.

Cadee started dancing when she was four years old. After seeing her love for the art, at the age of six, her parents enrolled her in the Break-Thru Dance Academy. From there, she knew that dance was something she wanted to seriously pursue.

“I have won several titles, including first places at national and regional competitions, and a top 12 final placement for my contemporary at the Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP). The Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP) definitely stands out for me. It’s one of the most prestigious dance competitions in the world, and competing was a dream come true for me,” she said.

“I love the freedom and expression that dancing allows. It’s a way to tell stories, convey emotions and connect with audiences without words. There is always a challenge, and the discipline and hard work involved also gives me a sense of accomplishment and growth,” added Cadee.

The highlight over the years of being a dancer was performing at the David H Koch Theatre.

At YAGP, Cadee performed an original piece choreographed by Shahar Binyami called Bolero X. There was a total of 60 dancers from around the world who were selected to perform.

“It was an amazing experience. I have had the best team of teachers at Break-Thru Dance Academy supporting me on this journey. Thank you to them all,” she said.
