Glen Anil non-profit looks for volunteers to empower youth

The non-profit organisation, EachOne.Reach1.org, implemented programmes to educate and train the youth, especially for those who come from single-parent households as their parents are often limited in capacity to assist their teens with everything.

A GLEN Hills-based organisation, EachOne.Reach1.org, is seeking the human power of volunteers who have a heart for community.

This month of June, they are calling on the community to commit to a sustainable programme which is in need of wisdom carriers.

“Do you have a vision to drive change? Are you a change-maker? Do you have a cup-half-full perspective? If you would like to share your time, gifts, talents, experiences and wisdom with youth who are desperate for change, come join our team,” said founder Dr Eshia Moodley-Govender.

The organisation is looking for volunteers to fit into the following teams: literacy training, values-based training, discipleship training, a peer-to-peer experiential team, catering and hospitality and a transportation team.

“Most of our programmes are held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. If you are a retired teacher, and you are available on weekday mornings, we welcome you to our youth literacy programme. This programme, in partnership with our sponsor family, the principal and educators, the Neema Foundation and NESS (ex-staff and students), is taking place in a classroom at Northmead Secondary School,” she added.

She added that there are currently 100 high school learners who are unable to afford additional tutoring or social support services.

There are many reasons that the organisation implemented these programmes – one of them being that parents are seeking co-parenting support as many youth come from single-parent households where parents are limited in capacity.

“The youth are struggling with literacy and currently have learning difficulties. Due to large classes and systems beyond educator control, these learners are experiencing a holistic gap. We are on a mission to reduce youth-at-risk statistics in KZN. Together, we can do so much more,” she said.
