Life coaching over breakfast with Umhlanga Women Achievers

The women's forums meets a few times a month to network, celebrate successes and gain knowledge and tips from informative and interesting speakers. This month's speaker was life coach Kas Naidoo, who spoke about the dynamic feminine power needed to thrive in all areas of life.

IF you’ve been to a networking breakfast of the Umhlanga Women Achievers’ (UWA), you will know that no two events are the same.

Their latest meet, held at Northwood Crusaders Sports Club last Wednesday, saw founding member Helene Griffiths share a bit of history – part one about the formation of the forum, which turns 30 this year.

Griffiths said the idea came from Jean Ingles, the then-mayor’s wife, who presented her with the idea of starting a networking group for women in business.

Back then, the Durban Chamber of Business was male-oriented, and there wasn’t a setting for businesswomen to support each other.

“After I met with friends over tea at Buxton’s Centre, we decided to form the Umhlanga Executive Business Women group which we soon had to change because there was a group with a similar name in Johannesburg. It was the deputy mayoress who suggested that the group should not only focus on women in business but on what each member has achieved as a woman,” she said.

Ending part one of her throwback, Griffiths congratulated the president of the UWA, Robyn Meloni, and the committee on steering the forum for the past three years.

The guest speaker was Kas Naidoo, a life coach, who spoke about the energy each person possesses and how to tap into it in a positive manner.
