Book vendor ‘pops up’ in La Lucia

His business has found a pop-up new home at the La Lucia Mall (next to Woolworths) where bookworms can find literature such as fiction, non-fiction, romance, business, health books, cook books, self-help and much more.

THERE’S a brand-new bookseller in La Lucia, and he is eager to have the community support him by either purchasing some of the great reads he has available or by donating pre-loved books to his business.

Alvin Dube is one of the many booksellers from the Denis Hurley Centre who are part of the Street Lit project.

This is one of the flagship entrepreneurship projects of the Denis Hurley Centre which helps a team of homeless and formerly homeless rehabilitated men and women earn a basic income from selling good second-hand donated books at venues around town.

“It was a friend that introduced me to book selling. Since then I have also become an avid reader. I particularly enjoy spy stories. At the moment, I am reading a book by John le Carré,” he said.

When he is not lost in the pages of an espionage story, Dube reads business and marketing books which, he says, has been useful to him. He also enjoys books on psychology.

“There are some fantastic titles that I have for sale and would appreciate the community’s support. They are also welcome to drop off any book donations for me to resell. In particular, I am low on stock of children’s books,” he added.

The Dennis Hurley Centre is looking for places to sell books. If you have a safe, legal, busy, public place for one of our vendors to sell books, contact them on 083 326 3234.
