SAPS uncover drug lab in Umgeni Park

Police also seized equipment from an apartment in an Umgeni Park residential complex which was allegedly using to manufacture drugs.

POLICE from the KZN Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit have dismantled a drug lab in Umgeni Park containing mandrax, rock cocaine and heroine worth an estimated street value of R1.3 million.

The discovery was made on Thursday (June 6) as police also arrested a 46-year-old suspect.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the unit were on the suspect’s trail for a while.

“On Thursday, the team executed a search warrant at his house on Rinaldo Road. Further investigations led the police to a residential complex in Umgeni Park where the suspect was renting an apartment.

“Inside the apartment, police found mandrax, rock cocaine and heroine worth an estimated street value of R1.3 million. Police also found and seized equipment which the suspect was allegedly using to manufacture drugs. An undisclosed amount of money was also found on the premises,” he said.

Netshiunda said the suspect was placed under arrest for manufacturing and dealing in drugs.
