Repeat copper cable thief arrested in Briardene

When the first officer heard noises in the premises that were dark due to the power outage, he called for backup, and together with other officers, they apprehended the suspect.

A COPPER cable thief was caught in the act after a business owner requested to be escorted by Marshall Security armed response officers to his premises on Sunday evening due to a power failure.

“Upon arrival of our first officer, just before midnight, he reported hearing noises indicating that someone could be on the property. Recognising the need for additional support, backup units were swiftly called to assist,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

Further inspection of the premises revealed a suspect trying to escape, but he was stopped in his tracks and quickly apprehended.

“Further investigation revealed that the individual had been stealing copper cables from the distribution board, which led to the mains failure,” said Powell.

The suspect is well-known in the area and was also arrested by Marshall Security officers last week.

Greenwood Park SAPS were alerted and transported the suspect to the police station.
