Raise the ‘woof’ at North Durban animal shelter party

The birthday bash will offer residents an opportunity to donate food to the dogs and cats in Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment's shelter as well as possibly adopt one of their animals. There will be fun activities for the family, too!

DESPITE the odds, the Phoenix Animal Care & Treatment (PACT) organisation is celebrating yet another year in existence.

This is the organisation’s 12th trip around the sun, and to commemorate the day, the founder, Neeri Naidoo, and volunteers are holding a birthday bash of note for the animals in their care.

“What better way to celebrate than to hold a birthday party for our dogs and cats in foster care? There won’t be any cats at the event, but people are welcome to bring along treats and food for them as birthday gifts.

“We also welcome donations of dog food which will go towards feeding the animals in our care,” she said.

Naidoo added that about 1.2 tons of food is needed every month to sustain the cats and dogs, many of which are looking for foster parents or their forever homes.

That’s the other element of the celebration, which is an adoption day.

“We have gorgeous animals looking for homes, and we hope that many of them will find that on the day,” she said.

Over 28 dogs are looking for homes, some of which have been in the kennels for over three years.

She added that many of PACT’s volunteers are also celebrating milestone birthdays in the time leading up to the celebration, and this made it extra special.

“Without our volunteers, we will never be able to do what we do, so this is our way of celebrating them and thanking them, as well,” she added.

There’ll be fun and games, dog portrait painting, face painting and lots more.

The event takes place at La Lucia Mall park on April 27 from 09:00 to 15:00. For more information, contact 073 005 4275.
