Suspects linked to north Durban vehicle thefts arrested

Several car-breaking implements were found in the suspects’ vehicle.

THREE suspects believed to be linked to cases of theft of motor vehicles in the Sunningdale, Effingham and Avoca areas were arrested on Tuesday evening.

The SAPS Phoenix Trio Crimes Unit, alongside members of Marshall Security, were patrolling when they spotted a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle spotted at a crime scene last week.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell, the suspects were in a white Hyundai I20 on the R102 near Glen Anil when they were spotted at about 19:40.

“Noticing the members’ presence, the suspects attempted to evade arrest, fleeing towards the Mount Moriah area. After a brief pursuit, members successfully intercepted the vehicle, and three suspects were apprehended.

“A search of the vehicle was conducted, and members found car-breaking implements, along with a dress believed to have been stolen during one of the attempted motor vehicle thefts on Youngberry Crescent,” he said.

He added the suspects were handed over to the Durban North SAPS.

“The suspects are believed to be involved in numerous cases within the Sunningdale, Effingham, Phoenix and Avoca areas,” Powell added.
