Repeat offender arrested in Avoca days after serving sentence

After two months of imprisonment and just being released, the suspect allegedly attempted to steal some valuable items from a property in the Avoca area.

A MAN was arrested while attempting to steal items from a home in Avoca this morning.

The Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a report of trespassing and an attempted theft at a non-client property on Kotecha Place.

“The suspect was spotted by the homeowner in their yard, attempting to steal some valuable items from the property. Upon being noticed, the suspect dropped the items, jumped over the gate and fled the scene on foot,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

After circulating a detailed description of the suspect, armed response officers responded, and the suspect was located on Greyridge Road in the Avoca area. He was immediately apprehended and positively identified by the homeowner.

The suspect was handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS and will face charges of attempted theft and trespassing.

“The suspect is a known offender and was previously arrested by our team in November last year. For that incident, he was sentenced to two months imprisonment and was only released last Friday,” said Powell.
