Six suspects fatally wounded during shootout with police

Six suspects were killed during a shootout with the police in Inanda this morning, and three suspects were arrested.

SIX suspects were fatally wounded during a shootout with police officers in Inanda in the early hours of Thursday.

KZN Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said that they operationalised intelligence to find the whereabouts of suspects who were wanted for a spate of house robberies, murders, business robbery and carjacking. This led them to a house in Emachobeni in Inanda.

The police announced their arrival, and the suspects responded with a hail of bullets. The police returned fire. “After the shootout, six suspects were found to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds, and three more suspects, two men and a 31-year-old woman, were arrested. One police officer was grazed with a bullet on the hand,” said Naicker.

The suspects were found in possession of two rifles and a shotgun. A vehicle that was hijacked at KwaDabeka in December 2023 was also found.

The arrested suspects will appear in court soon.
