Beaches north of Durban closed after heavy rain

Bathing on all beaches north of Durban is prohibited.

“BEACHES in Durban have been closed following last night’s heavy rain,” said the eThekwini Municipality in a media statement today.

The reason for the closure is that water quality may be compromised due to the heavy downpour. Debris and logs that washed into the ocean have rendered beaches unsafe to swim in.

The statement read:

“eThekwini Municipality wishes to inform the public that all beaches in the north and some in the southern region are closed until further notice. Only Umgababa Beach remains open in the south region. All central beaches remain open and are safe for swimming and other water-related activities.

“All water activities are prohibited on the beaches located in the regions mentioned above. However, residents can still enjoy other activities along the beach that do not require coming into contact with seawater.”
