Klaasen drives DSG to victory in Durban

The home team drove home the advantage in the rain-affected match which saw them claim victory by 11 runs under DLS.

HEINRICH Klaasen and Ryan Rickelton produced sizzling performances for Durban’s Super Giants and MI Cape Town, respectively, to get Betway SA20 Season 2 underway in thrilling fashion at Kingsmead on Thursday evening.

Ultimately, it was Klaasen’s 85 off 35 balls (4×4, 8×6) that edged out Rickelton’s 87 off 51 balls (6×4, 6×6) that allowed DSG to open their campaign with an 11-run Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS Method) victory, after a late downpour brought an early close to proceedings.

Durban’s Super Giants had earlier won the toss and opted to put MI Cape Town in to bat and the visiting team set an imposing 207/5 thanks to contributions from skipper Kieron Pollard and Liam Livingstone towards the latter half of the innings.

West Indies all-rounder Paul was DSG’s most successful bowler with figures of 2/31.

DSG’s response was stifled with the loss of three early wickets.

Aside from Klaasen, Matthew Breetzke was the next highest score smashing 39 off 24 balls.

However, it was Klaasen who helped keep the home above the par score and ultimately powered them to victory in the end.

DSG next take on Sunrisers Eastern Cape on Saturday in Gqeberha.
