Resident’s vigilance leads to arrest on Umhlanga Rocks Drive

A resident recognised the suspect from CCTV camera footage he’d seen of a break-in last Sunday on Stirling Crescent in Durban North.

A HOUSE burglary suspect, who was identified by a resident, was arrested on Umhlanga Rocks Drive yesterday.

The resident had seen the suspect on CCTV camera footage of a break-in on Stirling Crescent in Durban North which occurred last Sunday.

The individual then alerted Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre who sent out an alert via a local WhatsApp Crime Alert Group.

“Armed response officers and members of our special operations team were immediately dispatched to the scene. The suspect matched the description from the CCTV footage, and he was immediately apprehended. The suspect had stolen valuable items and an undisclosed amount of cash from the property,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

The suspect is also wanted in connection with a case of trespassing and malicious damage to property from October last year on David Place in the Glenashley area.

Durban North SAPS is investigating further.
