Kenville/Sea Cow Lake ratepayers’ body celebrates milestone

THE Kenville and Sea Cow Lake Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association recently celebrated its 30th anniversary at its annual general meeting (AGM).

Anil Beekrum, chairperson for the association, said the meeting was held to discuss successes over the past year and also address new concerns.

“One of the things we highlighted at the meeting was the number of positives we’ve achieved as a ratepayers’ body this year. The opening of the Kenville Road bridge has been a massive boost for the community. The project took five years to complete, but it has eased traffic concerns in the area. We also highlighted the work by the body to get the sewage leak fixed under the bridge on Sea Cow Lake Road.

“The other positive for the year was the massive clean-up in August this year. More than 10 tonnes of rubbish was removed from various roads in Sea Cow Lake and Kenville which was a joint effort between the Green Buddies Environment Club, Sea Cow Lake Secondary, various role-players, sponsors and the eThekwini Municipality Parks Department,” he said.

Beekrum added that he and Kishorie Dubaree, vice-chairperson of the association, had also intended to step down at the AGM.

“We had both agreed that we were going to step down and allow the younger generation to take over and pass the baton, so to speak. Unfortunately, that did not come to pass as there were no names put forward or anyone willing to step into the roles in the interim. We have always put the well-being of the community first, and we felt this was an opportunity to nominate someone else for the role. We will now be in the roles until November next year,” he said.
