Saturday, December 23

Warwick Market Tour in Durban

Durban Hiking and Adventures has organised a Warwick Market tour which is to be held on December 23. The walking tour is 2.5 hours long and starts at 09:00 and ends at 11:30. The tour explores nine informal markets in Warwick Junction, which include between 5 000 and 8 000 vendors. The products on sale consist of beadwork, traditional arts and crafts, traditional cuisine, fresh produce, music and entertainment merchandise, clothing, accessories and traditional medicine. Meet for the tour at Victoria Street Market underground parking. Tickets cost R275 per person. Saturday, December 23 (continuing on 24, 26, 30 and 31)

Umgeni steam engine rides with Santa

Come see the beautiful sights of the Valley of 1000 Hills on the Umgeni Steam Engine. The train is running on December 23, 24, 26, 30 and 31. The trip is roughly 75 minutes long. The market is available to browse for various treasures on sale, and there will be food and activities for the whole family. The Inchanga Railway Museum and Thomas and Friends are both open for a visit. Santa will be on board from December 15 to 24. Rocky Shore Morning Hike in Ballito

Durban Hiking and Adventures has organised a hike that explores some of the most pristine and beautiful beaches on the Dolphin Coast. The items to visit include three tidal pools, a secret beach, a haunted house, an engagement bay, a hole in the wall, Shaka’s Rock, a secret lookout point and more. The hike starts on December 26 – arrive at 06:15 for 06.30. Meet at Willards Beach main parking lot (Kudu Road). The hike covers a distance of 6–7km, which will take three hours. Tickets cost R130 per adult and R75 for children under 13. For R275 per person, transport is included which will collect persons in Durban North or Gateway. Book through Quicket. Visit: allevents.

Wednesday, December 27

Morning beach and forest hike at uMhlanga

Meet at Lagoon Drive at the corner of Newlands Drive, and arrive at 06:45 for 07:00. The hike is approximately 10km, which is expected to take between 3–4 hours. Tickets cost R120 per person. Children and small, well-behaved dogs are welcome, however, dogs will not be allowed in the Sibaya Coastal Forest Reserve! Rocky Shore Night Walk at Shaka’s Rock tidal pool 

Durban Hiking and Adventures has organised a visit to this beautiful tidal pool and some hidden rock ledges at night. Attendees will be able to see octopuses, sea slugs/hares, nudibranchs, devil firefish, a variety of colourful fish, sea urchins, starfish, anemones and a whole lot of other weird creatures! Please note that the sighting of these creatures is not guaranteed! The walk starts at 19:30. Meet at the corner of Ocean Drive and Old Main Road at Shaka’s Rock Beach. The walk is 1km and 2–3 hours long. Tickets cost R150 per person. Wear shoes with good grip. (Gumboots are the best.) No flat shoes/slops will be allowed – you will be excluded from participating if you’re wearing them. There are only 20 spots available, so don’t miss out, and visit: Rocky Shore Night Walk.

Elandré brings his Estetika Toer to The Barnyard Theatre

In 2021, this multi-platinum songwriter toured with his three hit albums, Kleindorpdromer, Boomhuis and Rugsak. He now returns two years later with his new album, EstetikaEstetika is full of nostalgic energy and is ‘a romantic ride down the road of Afrikaans-Garage-Rock and Roll.’ The live show starts at 19:00. Dancing Queen: A Tribute to ABBA coming to Suncoast

Australia Showtime’s internationally acclaimed impersonators, ABBAsolutely fABBAulous, are coming to wow Durban again with Dancing Queen: A Tribute to ABBA. The cast includes Brit Jess Driver as Agnetha, Zac Coombs as Bjorn, André Behnke as Benny and Giselle Bouwer as Anni-Frid.  The show is set to perform four nights from December 27 to 30, performing live massive ABBA hits such as Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Waterloo, SOS and much more.

All ages are welcome to attend. The shows start at 20:00 and will continue until 00:00. Tickets are available through Ticketpro. Fans are encouraged to book early as all shows are expected to be sold out in advance. Ticket prices are R175 on Tier 3, R275 on Tier 2 and R375 on Tier 1.

Summerdaze NYE beach party

Say farewell to 2023 with a beach party that will be fully kitted with live entertainment, dance floors, lounges, bars, good food and great music to bring you into 2024. South Africa’s top DJs and artists will be performing on the night. Eight bars and a food court will be available. Plenty of seating will be available under 1 000 square metres of tenting. The party starts at 14:00 at Beachwood Beach, Durban North. Attendees must be over 18 years of age. Tickets are limited and sell out every year, so book to avoid disappointment. Early bird tickets cost R180, and regular tickets cost R250. The VIP Ocean View Deck is R1 400 and includes unlimited free beer, cider, wine and complimentary snack platters, seating, a private bar and a hostess. VIP seating is limited to 100 people.
