Fine fare at the Somerset Market Christmas fair

The event is free for the public to enter on December 1 and 2 at the Immanuel Church in Somerset Park. It is open from 14:00 to 19:00 on the Friday and 09:00 to 14:00 on the Saturday.

THE fourth Somerset Park Christmas Fair is just around the corner, and you are invited to browse and buy the fare on sale from nearly 40 stalls.

The fair is associated with the monthly Somerset Park Market which takes place on the first Saturday of every month.

The Christmas Fair, however, is a two-day event comprised of everything to do with the festive season.
The organiser of the fair, Sharon Moss, said the event was always a hit with the community and stallholders. She and other organisers, Dawn Buxton and Maureen Hutton, were looking forward to yet another successful event.

“The first market was held in December of 2020 when restrictions had eased during the Covid-19 Pandemic. It was a huge success. Because it was an indoor market, some restrictions were still in place, but at that stage, people had been experiencing cabin fever and just wanted to get out again, so the fair went really well,” said Moss.

Since then, the fair has gotten bigger and better.
Patrons can expect Christmas cakes and treats, books, candles, clothing, juices, Boba tea, arts and crafts, teachers’ gifts, pesto, jams, pickles, waffles, home bakes, toys, ottomans, table runners and much more.

There will also be samoosas for sale with interesting fillings, such as chocolate, and not only the usually savoury.

“It’s important to remember that by coming to the fair, you will be helping the Ray of Hope Babies’ Home which homes abandoned babies until they are re-united with family or are adopted. The money from the stallholders goes towards the babies’ medical expenses, nappies and school supplies for the children who are going to school, among other unexpected costs,” said Moss.

“There will be good quality items on sale which we scout to ensure that only the best products are sold at the fair,” she added.

Quality thrift and second-hand books will be sold specifically for the Ray of Hope Babies’ Home.
