GALLERY: Fans show up for Springboks in Durban North

The atmosphere was electric at Saders Boktown at Northwood Crusaders Sports Club in Durban North.

THE Springboks have done it again, defending their fourth Rugby World Cup title against the All Blacks on Saturday night.

Needless to say, South Africans went wild with jubilation as the game closed on a 12–11 score, making South Africa the only country in history to have won the Rugby World Cup four times.

Locals came out in numbers donning their green-and-gold proudly in whichever way they could: shirts, caps and hats, scarves, glasses and even facepaint.

In a press statement, Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber and Captain Siya Kolisi thanked South Africa for inspiring them to overcome the All Blacks to record a third successive nail-biting one-point victory in the playoffs on their way to a record-breaking fourth Rugby World Cup title.

“This is for our fans and for South Africa,” said Nienaber after the 12–11 victory.

“I wish I could show you the number of messages and videos of what was going on in South Africa. I think there were 62-million people who united behind us.

“At the last World Cup, the country was hopeful that maybe there was a chance we could win it, but what transpired afterwards was belief in our team. . . I want to look after my family; I want to give back to my community because without them I wouldn’t be here. But once we come together for a common goal, nothing can stop us,” said Kolisi.

“What brings us together is our country. What brings us together are the Springboks and South Africa – that’s what drives us. I can’t explain it to you – you need to come and see South Africa to understand. Once we come together, nothing can stop us – not just in sport but also in life,” he added.
