Retired plumber ends water interruption in uMhlanga, Durban North

A retired plumber was called in to investigate what was causing the water interruption.

WATER supply to uMhlanga, Durban North and surrounds has been restored, and all it took was a flick of a valve, according to Ward 35 councillor Nicole Bollman.

“A retired plumber was called in to help. I was on-site with them. It was a valve, which was quite a distance from the main valve, that had been turned off. The retired plumber saw this, and as soon as he switched it back on, the reservoir started to fill,” said Bollman.

It is also believed that sabotage may have been the reason for the switch being tampered with, however, this is only speculation at this stage, and an investigation is underway.

Prior to this, areas north of Durban had been left high and dry for four days.

“Supply has been restored to some of the areas. Residents are asked to remain patient as the reservoir fills. Some areas may take longer to receive water,” she added.

She requested that residents use water sparingly until the system stabilises.
