Columbia Primary School learners excel at spelling bee

The Inter-School isiZulu Spelling Bee Competition was held at Avoca Primary School and saw 11 other schools take part.

LEARNERS from Columbia Primary School performed admirably at a recent Inter-School isiZulu Spelling Bee Competition.

The competition, hosted at Avoca Primary School, saw 11 other schools take part and tested the learners’ abilities to spell complicated words orally.

Brian Mudaly, acting principal of the Columbia Primary School, said he was proud of all the learners who competed.

He also made special mention of Chumani Dlamini (Grade Seven) and Ngcebo Cele (Grade Six), who placed first in their grade competition, and Phindile Mthethwa (Grade Five) who placed second in her respective grade competition.

“We are absolutely proud of all the learners who participated. In all, we had eight learners who competed. They were all so enthusiastic and it showed on stage. I think special mention must go to educators Surprise Mdletshe and Sanelisiwe Dludla who really helped our learners prepare well for this competition. Because of the learners’ achievements, we won the competition overall which is a great honour for the school. I feel that spelling bees help learners gain a good knowledge of words and build character,” he said.
