Lamees is a sharp shooter

Lamees competes in tournaments at least twice a month. In her last outdoor tournament held at Kings Park Archery Club, Durban, on August 20, she managed to match the record from 2014, achieving 638 out of 720.

IN a world where precision and focus reign supreme, one young archer has emerged as a true force to be reckoned with.

Lamees Kolia is a rising star in the world of archery, whose unwavering dedication and remarkable talent have propelled her to new heights.

At the tender age of 10, Lamees picked up her first bow and arrow when she visited MacBanana Adventure Park in August 2021. Her journey into the world of archery was driven by a fascination for the ancient sport.

Despite her young age, she showed a remarkable level of focus and determination, quickly mastering the fundamentals under the guidance of her dedicated coach Zaid Kajee of The Archer Archery Club.

“The sport has taught me the value of discipline as I have to balance between school, friends and archery training,” she said.

She has also developed a remarkable level of mental resilience, learning to overcome setbacks and remain focused under pressure.

“Archery has taught me the importance of setting goals and working tirelessly to achieve them. It has pushed me to my limits and beyond, and I’m grateful for the opportunities it has brought into my life,” said Lamees.

She was then selected to compete at Nationals in the outdoor competition in Johannesburg and placed second in her category.

She is constantly displaying impeccable form and precision by shattering records. Last weekend, she further achieved the highest score in the double indoor round and has now met the requirements to qualify for national colours in all three categories this year.
