“Reports from the scene indicate that a domestic worker was robbed of her handbag and cellphone by two suspects, of which one was armed with a firearm. An extensive search for the wanted suspects was conducted, however, they were able to get away,” he said.

Durban North SAPS spokesperson Nonhlanhla Shozi confirmed a case had been opened at the station.

“We have had cases in the past where pedestrians were targeted in uMhlanga. The suspects normally target lone pedestrians late at night or in the early hours of the morning. We are urging pedestrians, residents and visitors, where possible, to walk in groups. We are also urging anyone who falls victim to an armed robbery to report the crimes to the SAPS,” she said.
