Armed gang rob Avoca home

One of the residents was assaulted in the incident in Avoca.

GREENWOOD Park SAPS are investigating a case of armed robbery after a gang of robbers held up an Avoca family.

According to Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall, one of the residents was assaulted in the incident on Popatlall Place.

“The incident occurred at around 08:15 on Monday morning when a family was outside their property. Four suspects jumped over the fence and forcibly entered their home. Brandishing firearms, the suspects threatened the family and demanded valuable possessions. They proceeded to ransack the house before making their escape. During the ordeal, a family member was assaulted and will be visiting their doctor for further checkups,” he said.

Sooklall added that the suspects fled the scene in an unknown red vehicle.

The robbery comes after Marshall Security warned of an increase in the theft of motorbikes, scooters, trailers and bicycles.

“These brazen crimes, occurring primarily during the early hours of the morning, have raised concerns among community members. As advocates for safety and well-being, we aim to raise awareness about this crime trend and provide essential safety tips to protect community members and their valuable possessions,” Powell said.
